Chansons de Femmes is a variety programme made up of songs - generally love songs - in which women talk about men. The registers are diverse, ranging from melodrama to sarcasm, with some melancholy and irony along the way.
Sung by a man, it is the performance side that is stressed. The man, originally the recipient of these words, now embodies the role of the female speaker, claiming for the first person that which had formerly been either directed at him or said about him. Musician, singer and actor are, thus, united. The performance stems from a musical centre, which might be an aria or scene from an opera, and has a song format.
Luís Madureira, accompanied by Jeff Cohen on piano in a recital directed by Giorgio Barberio Corsetti, sings songs written or made famous by Yvette Guibert, Serge Gainsbourg, Mireille Mathieu, Barbara and Cole Porter among others.
