Prompted by the tremendous success of The Three Sisters, in the 1997 edition of PONTI, we have again invited the Lithuanian director, Eimuntas Nekrosius. On this occasion, it is the words of Shakespeare, the darkness and anguish of Macbeth, that will be subject to Nekrosius' poetic process in which the actors are revealed to us as flashing apparitions, vortices of energy that direct the audience to the centre of the scene, filling it with the purest, most absolute emotion. An unmissable mystery.

"Murder cannot be justified. Our challenge is to try and justify it, we approach the story of Macbeth from the point of view of a lawyer. Another challenge that interests me is to manage to express the mysterious side of the text. I always put on the same production. I am not looking for new modes of expression. All that I am looking for is nothing more than the heat and the humanity of rigor in the coolness of the text."
Eimuntas Nekrosius - La Sicilia
