With the premiere of Cais Oeste, by Bernard-Marie Koltès, directed by Rogério de Carvalho, the Ensemble - Sociedade de Actores, opens the doors for the first time of what will become, after refurbishing, the Teatro do Bolhão.
The writing of this piece was, as has happened with other texts by Koltès, determined by the discovery of a place. A far off pier, where each gesture takes on unsuspected meanings, an inescapable arena which Koltès' words never cease (re)constructing, is a possible metaphor for this new territory of teaching and theatrical practice. It is another step clearly showing the city centre as an excellent space for a full existential exercise.

"I wanted to convey the strange sensation which is experienced when you cross the immense place, apparently uninhabited, with the successive changes of light which occur throughout the night, creeping through gaps in the roof. The sound of footsteps and voices which multiply in the emptiness, the presence of someone, unseen, but who nevertheless brushes against us in passing, or perhaps the sensing of a hand that will suddenly grab us."
Bernard-Marie Koltès
